Project Management Responsibility (new space) |
||||||||||
|
It is the
responsibility of the department associated with the new space
to initiate a service request with Telecommunications and Networking for new or
relocated telephone and/or ISUnet service. The responsibility
of the Facilities Management Project Manager extends only to
the coordination and installation of new telephone/ISUnet
wiring and wall outlet installations associated with an actual
construction or remodeling project.
Once the department has approved the location of new telephone and/or ISUnet outlets with the Facilities Planning Designer or the Facilities Management Project Manager, the department should contact Telecommunications and Networking. Telecommunications and Networking will advise the department what costs may be associated with the service being requested and what paperwork will be required before a service order can be written. This contact should be made at least 45 days prior to the date the space will be occupied. |

New Wires and Jacks |
||||||||||
| If your department requests the installation of new telephone/ISUnet wires and jacks as part of a project covered by some centrally funded project related account, then you do not have to pay for the installation. If the installation of these wires and jacks are not covered by other funding sources, you will be charged for these installations. | ||||||||||
New Telephone or ISUnet Service |
||||||||||
| If your department requests new telephone or new ISUnet service, you will be charged both an installation charge and a monthly charge for this service. New telephone and ISUnet service is not covered as part of most renovation projects. Very large projects may cover some additional service installation charges but they will not cover the monthly charges. The fiscal agent for the department responsible for the monthly charges must order all new service directly from Telecommunications and Networking. | ||||||||||
Move or Relocate Service |
||||||||||
|
Telecommunications and Networking will pay for the
initial move of existing telephone and ISUnet service to newly
assigned departmental space. The department must pay to move
existing telephone and ISUnet service within currently
assigned departmental space. The charge for a move (other than
to newly assigned departmental space) is $25.00 per ISUnet
data port and $25.00 per telephone line.
The $25.00 move charge applies to moves of existing service from one pre-wired location to another pre-wired location. In the case of an ISUnet service move, the new data service location must be in a building with access to ISUnet service. If another department will occupy a space you are leaving, you should remove all service and equipment from that space. Keep in mind that if you leave a telephone instrument in an unsecured area and it is stolen, your department is required to pay the actual replacement cost for that telephone instrument. Also, any telephone or ISUnet service left active in that space will continue to be billed to your department. |

Deactivate Service |
||||||||||
| If a department sends a request to Telecommunications and Networking to deactivate (remove) telephone or ISUnet service, this service is considered gone. | ||||||||||
Activate Service |
||||||||||
|
If the department sends a request to activate (add) telephone or ISUnet service, this service is considered new and is charged accordingly.

Placing Telephone and ISUnet Service Orders |
||||||||||
The actual request for telecommunications related services (work orders),
including all telephone and ISUnet service activations, must come from
the fiscal agent of the account that will be responsible for
the on going payment of the services being requested.
Information for service requests can be obtained by telephone at 438-8731, but the actual service request must be received in a non-verbal form (see methods listed above) before the work order can be issued.
* Note: If the service being requested will be for new or remodeled space that has not yet been wired for telephone and ISUnet service, the Facilities Management Project Manager should provide the department with a floor plan that shows the new outlet locations. The department should provide this floor plan to Telecommunications and Networking to assist in locating the new jack numbers for the departmental service order. **Note: Completion dates for service orders will depend on the number of orders being processed by Telecommunications and Networking at that time and the availability of technicians and electricians to complete these orders. The typical completion time for a service order once submitted to Telecommunications and Networking will be approximately 15 - 18 working days for orders without wiring and 25 - 27 working days for orders where wiring is required. Service requests are normally processed in the order in which they are received. |
